Last summer we served 479 meals to school-aged children who normally received free lunches at school.

Online Registration is now closed.  If you would like to register for the 2017 Redlands Hunger Walk on June 3, 2017, you can do so onsite Saturday morning.  Registration/check-in is being held in front of Memorial Chapel on the University of Redlands Campus and will be open at 6:30 a.m.  The Hunger Walk starts at 8 a.m.

T-shirts will be given out while supplies last.  Parking is available in the lot behind the Chapel or on the street (University or Brockton).

With an average of 56.7% of students in our area eligible for free or reduced cost school lunches, the Summer Nutrition Program at Family Service has proven to be an important addition to the services we offer. The program is open to all, not just clients.

“Providing nutritious meals to students during the school year helps students stay alert and focused in class,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson said in a February 2017 news release. “Making sure children have access to healthy food during the summer is just as critical. Those students will return to school in the fall ready to learn.”

Family Service hires a part time staff person during the summer to run this program. The Summer Nutrition employee is responsible for putting together menus, shopping, serving meals, and providing the children with an after lunch activity each day.

The Redlands Hunger Walk helps to fund the Summer Nutrition Program as well as stocking and running our Pantry during the summer months. Food insecurity is a bigger problem than we realize and Family Service is dedicated to helping those in need in our community.

We are excited to announce our 3rd Annual Redlands Hunger Walk will be on June 3, 2017.

The Redlands Hunger Walk will once again benefit the Summer Nutrition Program and our Food Pantry. This 5K fun Walk is family-friendly and begins and ends at Memorial Chapel of the University of Redlands campus.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast is available to all participants before or after the 5k.

Walk begins at 8 a.m. and this year will include a Fun Run that starts at 7:30 a.m. Check-in and late registration opens at 6:30 a.m. located in front of Memorial Chapel.

Registration: Online registration for individuals and teams will open until Friday, May 26, 2017. Late registration is available at Memorial Chapel. T-shirts are guaranteed for all early registrants. Late registrants will receive T-shirts as available.

Individual Fees:
Adult Early Registration (before May 26) – $30
Adult Late Registration (after May 26) – $35
Children (12 or younger) Early Registration – $5 or can of food
Children Late Registration – $6


Team (10 or more members) Fees:
Adults – $25, ($30 after May 26)
Children (12 or younger) – $4, ($5 after May 26)


Water stations will be set up along the Walk route.


Resource Tables from local Health and Human Service agencies will be set up on the Quad for you to visit and gather information. Activities for children will also be available.
